Located on Stanley Street, Townsville City, Powerlink’s CopperString 2032 Experience Centre will provide an engaging hub for visitors of all ages. You will be immersed in the project through eight educational zones with interactive hands-on exhibits. Discover the history of energy in Queensland, learn more about the CopperString 2032 project and uncover the important roles the North West Minerals Province and renewable energy will play in Queensland’s energy future.

This state-of-the-art CopperString 2032 Experience Centre is the first of its kind for a Powerlink project and provides an immersive engagement hub for the electrical superhighway of the North to educate and inspire the next generation of energy workers.
CopperString 2032, led by Powerlink Queensland
CopperString 2032 initially involves building an 840 kilometre (km) transmission line from Mount Isa to near Townsville that will connect Queensland’s North West Minerals Province to the National Electricity Market for the first time in Australia’s history. Approximately 200km of additional transmission line will be required to connect new renewable generators to CopperString 2032.
CopperString 2032 officially broke ground in July 2024 in Hughenden with the construction of the workforce accommodation and facilities.
CopperString 2032 is on track for completion by 2029.
