Powerlink is committed to protecting your privacy and this statement outlines how we collect personal information, why we collect it and how we use and disclose it. It also describes common types of information we may collect.
We are bound by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) and the Human Rights Act 2019 (Qld) and this statement is our commitment to keeping you informed about how we manage and protect your personal information and privacy.
This Policy does not apply to the personal information of our employees.
COLLECTING YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION
We collect personal information so we can provide products and services and perform the operations and functions of our business. Sometimes, the law requires us to collect it. Most of the personal information will be collected directly from you and may include your:

DEALING WITH US ANONYMOUSLY OR USING A PSEUDONYM
Where possible and lawful, you may interact with us anonymously or using a pseudonym. For example, if you contact us with a general question we will not record your name unless we need it to adequately handle your question.
However, for many of our functions and activities we usually need your name, contact information and other details to enable us to provide our services or products to you.
HOW WE COLLECT PERSONAL INFORMATION
We may collect personal information from or about you in different ways, including:
- =Directly from you when you interact with us, e.g. via phone written correspondence, including email or our website when you contact us or complete a form;
- From CCTV systems operating in our venues;
- Through a third party, including an agency or contractor, we deal with so we can provide our products and services to you or our customers.
If you apply for a job or contract position with us, we may also collect personal information about you from third parties and publicly available sources, including:
- Recruiters;
- Government departments to verify your entitlement to work in Australia;
- Police agencies to obtain your criminal history record;
- Academic institutions;
- Consulting medical practitioner;
- Superannuation fund provider;
- Your current or previous employers; or
- Your referees.
HOW WE USE AND DISCLOSE PERSONAL INFORMATION
We use your personal information in order to provide products and services related to our business which includes:
- providing network access and authorisations;
- attending to network related events, including safety or emergency issues, maintenance and vegetation management;
- addressing any query or complaint you may raise;
- processing a job application where you have applied to work for Powerlink;
- communicating with you about our business;
- offering or promoting our products, services, events, promotions and competitions;
- obtaining feedback;
- performing internal administration activities;
- preventing or investigating any actual or suspected fraud, unlawful activity or misconduct; and
- complying with the law including using your personal information where we are required or permitted to do so.
In the course of providing our products and services to you, we may disclose your personal information with the following:
- contractors, agents and suppliers in order to provide our services, or for them to undertake services on our behalf;
- our professional advisers, including lawyers, accountants and auditors; and
- government agencies, regulatory bodies and law enforcement agencies, or other similar entities.
WHEN YOU ATTEND OUR VENUES
We use CCTV systems at our venues. We collect your personal information via CCTV in and around the venue for the purpose of:
- monitoring the safety and security of our visitors, employees, contractors and suppliers, and completing incident investigations;
- detecting and deterring unauthorised access to, or unwelcome or criminal behaviour at, our venues; and
- implementing and enforcing the policies and procedures of Powerlink Queensland.
CCTV footage may be disclosed to third parties, such as:
- law enforcement agencies;
- third party service providers; or
our third party claims management provider in connection with incidents. The claims manager may provide CCTV footage to its related entities as part of its ordinary claims management practices. This may involve the disclosure of your personal information overseas. CCTV footage is stored securely and retained in accordance with the Public Records Act 2002 (Qld), which in most cases is 30–90 days or unless otherwise directed. CCTV footage will be deleted securely and promptly once the stated purpose has been fulfilled.
Direct marketing
We may use your personal information to identify a product or service that you may be interested in or to contact you about an event or promotion. We may use the personal information we have collected about you to contact you from time to time whether by [phone, email,] to tell you about new products, services, events and special offers that we believe may be of interest to you.

PROTECTING YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION
We protect information using a range of security measures and procedures to prevent loss, modification, unauthorised access and misuse. In some situations, we may disclose personal information to third parties who store data overseas. Before doing so, we take reasonable steps to ensure the overseas recipient complies with the Australian Privacy Principles.
We keep your personal information for as long as it is required for the purpose for which it was collected or as otherwise required by applicable laws, including the Public Records Act 2002 (Qld). If we no longer need to hold your personal information for any reason or we are no longer required by law to keep it, we will take reasonable steps to de-identify or destroy that information. These steps may vary depending on the nature of the information, the way it was collected and how it was stored.
COOKIES
When you visit our website, we may also use 'cookies' or other similar tracking technologies that help us track your website usage and remember your preferences. A cookie is a small file that may be sent to your computer when you visit our website. They enable the entity that put the cookie on your device to recognise you across different websites, services, devices and/or browsing sessions.
We may use cookies to help manage information preferences of visitors to our website. While we do not use browsing information to identify you personally, we may record certain information about your use of our website, such as which pages you visit, the time and date of your visit, search engine referrals and the internet protocol address assigned to your computer.
You can disable cookies through your internet browser but our website may not work as intended for you if you do so.

If your contact details change or you believe any information we hold is inaccurate, incomplete or out of date, please contact us immediately on 1800 635 369 so we can promptly update it.
We will need to verify your identity before responding to your request. Subject to any applicable exceptions or requirements, we will provide you with access to the personal information you request within a reasonable time and usually within 28 days
If we are not able to provide you with access, we will advise you of the reasons and attempt to help you find other ways to access information.
COMPLAINTS
You can make a privacy related complaint by contacting the Powerlink Privacy Officer at privacy@powerlink.com.au. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may also complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner who is an impartial third party.
